About Flex – Physiotherapy in Burgess Hill

We are delighted to announce the opening of our new Physiotherapy clinic in Burgess Hill!

We are the ONLY Advanced practitioner led physiotherapy clinic in Mid Sussex. As the local experts in musculoskeletal physio we are excited to open our clinic in Burgess Hill.  As well as physiotherapy assessments and treatments we plan to introduce new services for the local population including ultrasound imaging, ultrasound guided injections, shock wave treatment and sports massage.  We also plan to run screening services for example for running, skiing, pre-season screening and injury prevention.

We are also able to offer ‘virtual’ video based consultations to avoid face to face appointments where necessary.  We will discuss your condition with you, make a clinical diagnosis and provide you with a bespoke exercise programme which we will email you.  Due to COVID, virtual appointments are currently supported by all major insurers.  If you are interested in this service please call us on 01444 689034.

Flex Physiotherapy is a specialist physio, spinal and sports injury practice in West Sussex. We are experts in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy with all of our physios being educated to masters level and beyond.  Currently we offer clinics at Sidney West in Burgess Hill.

Flex was established by two of the leading physiotherapists in the South East.  Our physios are highly trained experts in their field and have published in research journals and/or text books. We mentor and lecture at an undergraduate and post graduate level.

As a team we provide expert knowledge, diagnosis and treatment. We pride ourselves in providing high quality evidence based physiotherapy. Our typical client base varies from those with simple aches and pains, through to the recreational ‘weekend warrior’, to the elite athlete.   We provide treatment for a wide range of conditions from whiplash and back pain, to sports injuries, joint pains and overuse injuries. Flex offers a wide range of hands-on and one-to-one physiotherapy treatments including: joint or spinal manipulation, post-operative rehabilitation, exercise, massage and acupuncture.

We are experienced at managing patients who have not responded to previous treatments including physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathy and we are happy to offer a specialist second opinion.  We have close links with local GPs as well as local Orthopaedic, Rheumatology, Neurosurgery and Pain Management consultants. We work closely with the Spring Orthopaedic Group in Brighton and Hove, Horder Health and also consultants at Gatwick Park and Goring Hall Hospitals.

If you are in pain and unsure whether you need to see a physiotherapist then contact us today and we’ll be happy to offer advice and let you know whether we think we’ll be able to help. If you are in pain and do not yet have a diagnosis then book an appointment to see us today. You can self-refer and do not need a referral from your doctor. We are registered with all the major insurance providers.

Physio Treatment

Initial Physiotherapy Consultation

All of the Flex Physiotherapy team pride themselves on offering high quality, evidence based physio treatment.  We currently offer appointments in Burgess Hill. At your initial physio consultation, one of our experienced team will fully assess you by taking the time to talk through your problem and perform a physical examination to examine the relevant joint, muscle and nerve structures to provide you with a diagnosis. We will then discuss with you the likely causes of your pain and the treatment approach which we feel is most appropriate. We will also address factors which may be contributing to your problem such as your posture or abnormal movement patterns. In most cases we will begin treatment during the initial consultation. Please contact us with any questions you may have or to arrange an appointment.

Follow up Physio Consultation

Treatment will vary depending on your condition. This may include joint manipulation or mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, nerve mobilisation and acupuncture. We will provide you with specific exercises and advice to help you return to full fitness.  We normally would expect significant improvement within 3-4 session of treatment.  If the condition is not improving as we would expect, we will have an honest conversation as to why that may be.  We will not continue to treat if it is not helping and if necessary we may liaise with your doctor and suggest further investigations or an onward referral.

Osteoarthritis is an extremely common condition affecting many of us as we get older. It commonly affects the hips and knees but can affect smaller joints also. We use to think this was purely a 'wear and tear' condition causing the joint surfaces to wear. However,...

We often get asked about meniscal (cartilage) tears of the knee and whether physio can help. I've made a video below where I've tried to summarise the current thinking on the subject, when surgery might be appropriate and when you might want to try physiotherapy: https://youtu.be/Lcd4CyKalRc To...

So is this paper finally the nail in the coffin for spinal fusion surgery for back pain? My dad had a spinal fusion for back pain when I was a kid. It was the early 80’s and he injured his back putting in a new kitchen....

Many of the most eminent names in physiotherapy have descended on Glasgow over the past week for #IFOMPT2016, the conference of the ‘International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists’. Flex was there! One of the most fascinating things about the conference is that despite it’s name, the...

Both Dave and I have just had the honour of attending The International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapist (IFOMPT) conference in Glasgow this month.  The five day conference brought together an array of highly respected academics and clinicians as a means to present current...
